Each transport mode has its own optimum scope; therefore, an urban transport system cannot be based on just one of these modes. As urban areas grow, the more extensive their transport networks become, calling for an effective system of intermodal stations. Transport interchanges, ranging from small stations with integrated parking for private vehicles, to the large, multi-level urban intermodal stations, have become transport system hubs. Their design must facilitate their function: interchange. intermodal stations must be perceived by users as opportunities rather than obstacles.
